Post Re: sept 3rd game
Vietnam in the monsoon season, couldnt get any better! Had a BRILLIANT shoot. Total professionalism all day from both of my team mates, a real pleasure to be with and see, you know who you are, thanks. It was great seeing some of the guys making an effort with the Vietnam theme, I know we are not a reanactment airsoft site and never will be, but seein some of the guys in black gear for the VC team and the US forces in various plain greens etc including some of you in just t-shirts all day despite the weather really added that little bit of realism. The whole day for me was one of total enjoyment. Thanks to the lads with the behind the scenes work, to the marshalls for keeping it all running smoothly to the safezone lasses for the great food and a brew that I really did need! and thanks to all the guys on the day for what you always do, fair game play, good team mates and even better enemy to shoot at!!!
Thanks- Biker (The one with dry cigs, Andy Davo) :D

Morning All,

Was absolutely knackered from the weekend, and i didnt even do any shooting LOL......

Fair to say though i was piss wet through & Monsoon wasnt far off the mark :(

Bad weather never contributes to having a good day, but i was pleased to see the enourmous effort everyone put in despite.... Also a big thanks to those who put that extra effort in on the uniforms etc, you know who you are... :) (clap clap)

From a marshalling point of view i know we had a couple of issues (see not even MOA is immune LOL), id like to think one of them was due to the atrocious weather and a some people will probably need to take a look at themselves and just pull it together.......

The other one was just a bit of over enthusiasm unless im mistaken and dealt with at the time..... Probably doesnt stop our local Scaramanga from feeling any better LOL. im sure he can laugh about it now.....

Richie may bloody hell, how do you manage to keep injuring that hand, what have i told you about playing with sticks..... :) :)

All that said i got the feeling you all enjoyed the day, thanks as always for being so great and making it what is was, as always its you guys who make the shoots what they are, not the scenarios or the props etc.......

Oh and a final BIG MASSIVE thanks to dazza,,, for his electrical indinuity in designing the firing mechanism for the artillery strike in the morning.......

I think you will all agree it was something to behold....

See you all soonl

J

Monsoon? Pah, that was just a bit of a Nam shower out in the boonies :)

Apologies on behalf of my Bro (Mr. full US digital cam) for the capture incident with Andy Davo. Heat of the moment stuff and, as an ex GMP Tactical Aid Sergeant, he's used to not tolerating any "dicking about" from his "arrest clients" ;)

Mind you, I also gave Andy a 3 shot burst in the kneepad with my Beretta after he captured me late on (sorry mate) - but serves him right for spraying the right side of my face from 20ft ;)

OK, who was lurking in the shadows in the caravan when we took Bunker 1 first thing? There's a huge dental bill coming your way due to loss of my front tooth. I'm taking the opportunity to get a full set of nice straight shiny gnashers fitted - stainless or titanium - I'll price them up hahahahahaha.

It was a good day, weather means nothing. Good "dressing the part" and a good basic scenario. However, if I'm honest - and I assume that's what you want, it wasn't the best day I've done due to a few cumulative factors:

Comms - ok most of my US team in the am were on my Cobra MT600 radios - but comms was at best sporadic if not non-existent at times. I was losing contact as soon as teams had gone BVR and I was getting little or no feedback from squads in the field - so commanding blind a lot of the time.

Taking hits - personally I sprayed half mags into retreating vc squads on two occasions from medium range through limited cover - NONE of these guys took a hit - very disappointing. I had several other reports from my team of similar occurences.

The Turncoat - blew us out of the water in the afternoon when Steve went commie and the day really did go downhill from then. US squads all over the site unable to communicate, team commanders unable or unwilling to get our "faecal matter" back together, etc., etc..

Capture rules - too complicated and led to the odd unfavourable incident. If you're dead you're dead in real life - unless you believe in zombies :)

OK, minor gripes over, hope you take them as constructive :) Rest of the day and organisation up to the usual high standards :)

Thanks to Wiggsy as usual for the whole thing. Thanks to J for the effort on the scenario and the "big bangs" ;) Ta to Darren for usual good marshalling. Thanks to Biker, Danny and A.N. Other for the Air America support - didn't see you much but I know you were on our side ;)

Thanks to all other players for the whole day - I'm making some good friends here :)

Special thanks to Catherino and the ladies for the brews and lovely grub - need more of that deffo :)

And a final apology for my blue on blue episodes - I did offer my frags so the grunts could take out their useless Platoon commander but nobody took me up on that :) We all need to do more talking & shouting guys ;)

See you all soon,

Andy

No Worries Andy, we always take the critisism on the chin, especially in the cases where its well deserved.

I completely agree that the capture rule did not work at al with the players we had on the day, lesson learnt.

As for the hit calling because of the amount of running around trying to sort the game in the afternoon i didnt hear much pretty much except off your brother and you and in fairness i was getting the same from the VC side.

I put it down to the weather as the people that were being spoken about on both sides, the likes of yourself on blue and richie on red i can PERSONALLY vouch that they are very very fair genuine players...

Anyways lots of lessons learnt from the day both good and bad.

Hope you all still had a good day & cant wait for the next one as ill be shooting yay.............:)

Cheers

J

Don't think the weather helped with hit recognition, I know myself I heard (but didn't feel) what I thought was rain drops on my boots only to look down when someone called out " feet hits count" and see BB's bouncing of my little toes. Many times when your hit it is the sound that lets you know and the Rain covered a lot of that up.

Raindrops keep falling on my helmet......ting, ting, ting. Or are they BB's? :)

Don't worry J, still enjoyed the day. The overall Marine/VC scenario was brill and I enjoyed dressing up for it. Also grateful (believe it or not) for the chance you gave me to command in the morning - really made me feel good and a proper club member :) :) :)

Mate you are a club member thats the top and bottom of it, there are no favourites, no hierachy well except ste's demand for fags........... :) :)

True normally we have stuck with tried and tested commanders but that is normally so the scenarios work as planned...... but after a bit of reflection recently it became clear we needed to give more people the chance to have a go and the chance to make the mistakes so they can learn from them (just like we used to do).

That and sometimes whats obvious to other people doesnt always occur to me, well a lot of the time or so my mrs says anyway..........

Well thanks for the vote of confidence anyway :)

p.s. Women always have a different view of things from us - they are not logical creatures hahaha

p.p.s Give Chaz a proper go at commanding next time and see what chaos you end up with hehehehehe. Who needs enemies when you've got friends like me ;)

Ok Ladies and Gentlmen. The time you have all been waiting for has arrived.....the BIIIG debrief from me :P

When i found out it was to be a 'nam theme i was beside myself....I LOVE VIETNAM!! I am a massive fan of what the VietCong did to the invaders called the Americans. :)

I immediately stood up to the challenge of being on the VC side and even purchased a few costume extras to help the cause (the whistles being the best)
From the first assault by the americans at bunker 1 behind smoke cover and to the theme of ride of the valkries i knew i was in for a good day. The VC lost bunker 1 but it was always our plan to fall back and regroup to attack again, just like they did in Vietnam. The scenario was based on an actual event which made it even more realistic to 're-enact'
Being VC i had to have a whistle. So i also made Andy, Richie and Ryan have whistles also. Oh so much fun was had blowing our attack whistles to confuse and scare :)
A few hiccups during the day but these were sorted on the spot by the professionalism and honesty that the sport of airsofting brings with it.
My favorite moment of the day was when i had been captured prisoner by the yanks. I was being escorted to bunker 1 along the track by 2 americans, as we came up to the bend the call of 'Blues coming in' from my captor was shouted, no reply. We walked past a bush which suddenly spat out HUNDREDS of little white things called BB's. THANK YOU RICHIE!!!!! I was killed but so were my captors.
When myself, Richie and Rhys, located at the far end of bunker 1 complex looking towards bunker 2, were holding off the attack by the americans from that exact area we killed many to none of our own deaths. I actually ran out of ammo in my mags whilst defending that advance.
OH and Biker and his band of merry gentlemen were already there before any of us arrived and Rhys did a superb job of dealing with their sneaky hit in the ferns. Good boy rhys....

Finally....a HUUUUGE thankyou to Cath and the girls for the burgers and drinks, that made my day having an MOA Double Cheeseburger!! :)
Thanks to Jizzy, Darren and Ste for your superb marshaling skills as always to keep the game flowing nicely.
This essay is now.....over.
But on an ending note to all you Americans...........G.I.....I KILL YOU!!!!!
